Cruise Alaska (Part 2) Skagway

Day 4 of our cruise was our first port day. We arrived in Skagway at 7 A.M. We had an excursion booked that day so had to be at the end of the dock by 10:30. This gave us time to get dressed and eat breakfast, plus avoid the first rush of cruisers getting off! Beings this was our longest port of call we thought it would be a good place to do a longer excursion. Neither of us had ever been ziplining and that sounded fun so off we went to zip through the trees over glacier fed waterfalls in ALASKA! We were put in to groups of 6 and had two guides to help us out: Scott and Remy. One would go ahead of us and stop us, hook us up to the tree so we wouldn't fall off! The other would stay behind to help us go. There was about 9 ziplines and 2 suspension bridges. The fastest one we went on I did let out a screech. For some reason I would spin so would kick my feet to try and keep myself facing forward. Remy said I looked like a puppy when you hold them over water and they start kicking like they are swimming. Ack, how awkward... :p After that they taught us how to stear and I had a blast! I didn't do any of the tricks besides the "look ma no hands" one, but Tim did them all. He flipped and went upside down. I just enjoyed flying through the wilderness! After we were done, we drank some water that they got from the glaciely fed waterfall. It was nice and cool.

On the way back to town the bus stopped at a scenic lookout to take some
pictures. What a beautiful place! I have to say that Skagway is gorgeous!

This has to be one of my favorite pictures from our cruise. So pretty!!

I actually snapped this picture from the bus. See the blueish ice up high? That's one of many glaciers we glimpsed!
When we got back to town we ate lunch at the Skagway Brewing Company. I have to say this was delicious! I got a chicken sandwich that had bacon, a sun dried tomato cream cheese spread, and cilantro pesto. Man, I want another one!!

Seriously, look at this yumminess!!

After we ate, we strolled around town and bought some souvenirs for the kiddos, then we headed back to the ship.

Had to buy some fudge!

Our ship in Skagway

That day was the only day we skipped out on the session and dinner. We just stayed in our room and ordered room service for supper. All in all that was a great day, I think my favorite of the cruise! Hold on for more Alaskan adventures!

Cruise Alaska (Part 1)

Where to begin? Well, our cruise was for 7 nights so I think I will break it up a bit in order for it to not be too long! We started out in Seattle, just a 3.5 hour drive for us!! That was great to be able to just drive our car and park it at the terminal. Our ship left port at 4 PM July 25th. Neither of us having been on a cruise before, we were both ready to go!
I'm sure I don't need to say where this is!!
Leaving Seattle

Sunset.. We were heading west in to the sunset..

That day was spent getting an idea of how things work. Muster, signing in for our retreat, and eating in the dining room for the first time. That was a little different than what we are used to. Being seated and having napkins placed on our laps, all the different plates and silverware set just perfectly. We felt a bit out of our element, but thankfully our table crew were great and we made awesome friends!!

Going to sleep for the first time on a cruise ship was actually pretty relaxing. The ship sways just enough to lull you. No wonder babies like to be rocked to sleep!! It was great having a room with a balcony so we could sit out there whenever we wanted and watch the waves go by!!

Trying to capture a picture of killer whales.. You can barely see a sign of them..

Umm... ya, who wouldn't want to be able to sit in privacy and gaze at this majestic beauty?!

Day 2 was a sea day so we explored the ship a bit. Found a perfect spot to relax on the 10th deck. We shared a coffee and Tim had an ice cream cone.

Perfect bubble for the introvert!!

That night was formal night, but we didn't get a good picture as I left the camera in the room and we tried with Tim's phone, but they didn't turn out. Come to find out later, it was zoomed way in! Could have stood in line and had them professionally done, but that's not exactly our cup of tea.. Oh, well...

Day 3 was still spent on the ship, but we cruised up the Tracy Arm Fjord. Talk about a beautiful place!! Wow!! The water is the blue green color you think of when you think of a tropical place. But here there are mountains, glaciers, and large ice floes all around. Simply breathtaking!!!

This ice floe is the size of a house!!!

Standing on our balcony. Tim took the picture from in the room.. Who  could pass this scenery up?!

Excursion boat

Excursion boat picking up the passengers that booked this one.. We were on the 10th deck watching..

God's country!!

And there you have it! The first 3 days of our Alaskan cruise. Hope you enjoyed!! Stay tuned for days 4-8...

The Blue Sky Tag

I was tagged quite awhile ago by my sweet niece, Daminika to do this post. I have to answer 11 questions so here goes:

1. What is your description of the perfect day?

Well, for me as a mom that would probably be one where I get enough rest and wake up refreshed. The kids all behave and don't get dirty!! No fighting or arguing.. Ha, who am I kidding? We all go do something fun together like go to the beach or boating.. Making memories is the perfect day for me!!

2. What is one of your favorite Bible verses?

"You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever." Psalm 30:11-12 NKJV
These verses are how I felt when Brandt was born after having so many miscarriages!

3. Favorite ice cream flavor?

That would be Friendly's brand Black Raspberry... So bummed you can't buy it on the West coast... But then maybe I would get fat if I ate too much, so maybe it's a good thing!!

4. If you were to move to another country which one would you pick?

Not really looking to move to another country, but would say Canada as that would feel the most like home. Or maybe Ireland? That might be kind of cool, but then again maybe not!! Haha...

5. Where do you think is the greatest place for a day adventure?

Hmmm.... I really enjoyed the day we spent in Skagway, Alaska so maybe there. Ziplining and eating a yummy chicken sandwich was AWESOME!!

6.Where is the most beautiful place you've ever been to?

Again Skagway Alaska!! Beautiful and majestic!!
Isn't it gorgeous?!!

7. Do you enjoy thunderstorms?

Yes, yes I do!!

8. What is one hobby you've always wanted to do?

Play the piano..

9. Where are the bluest skies you've ever seen?

I've seen a bit of blue skies, but recently would probably be on our cruise at sea.. Bright blue skies and a sunny day! So beautiful and relaxing!

10. What is your favorite holiday?

That would have to be Christmas!! I love everything about it: the joy in the air, baking, decorating, thinking of the perfect gifts for my family. Gifts is my love language, both the getting and giving!!

11. What is one of your favorite childhood memories?

I have so many! Camping, going to Maine, trucking with my dad. Probably one of the best times was when I was 9 we went to Florida. Our first real family vacation! It was so fun. Swimming in the pool, going to the beach, and Lion Country Safari.. Great memories!!

I'm not going to tag anyone, sorry Daminika, but at least I finally did mine!!
